Paying for business-class air tickets and accommodation to have Wales rugby legends playing at your birthday seems like a bargain in comparison to some of the massive sums paid to secure the services of a top-name at your celebration:
Last year, Bhs and Arcadia owner Sir Philip Green blew £4m on his son's Bar Mitzvah celebration on the French Riviera. Destiny's Child and Andre Bocelli were hired to entertain guests at the three-day celebration. And in 2002, he dressed up as Nero for a luxurious toga party to celebrate his 50th birthday. On that occasion, the festivities are reputed to have set him back £5m, with entertainment provided by Rod Stewart and Tom Jones.
US financier David Bonderman is estimated to have lavished around £6m on celebrations for his 60th birthday bash in 2002. The Texan billionaire hired the Rolling Stones for the Las Vegas do at a reputed cost of £4.4m for their 40-minute set while Hollywood star Robin Williams was rumoured to have been paid £600,000 to be a warm-up man.
Businessman Michael Spencer lavished £1m on having Robbie Williams play at his 50th birthday party. The multi-millionaire hired the pop star to perform in front of 300 guests at his holiday mansion in the South of France last September. It is estimated the £1m cost of hiring Williams represents just a fifth of Mr Spencer's annual bonus at the world's biggest money broker, ICAP, where he is chief executive.
