A Saudi prince is lining up a 7 billion euro project for a mile-high tower, which is double the height the tallest building being built.
The 5,250ft tower is being projected for the Saudi Arabian desert and is being masterminded by two British engineering companies. The monstrous tower will be more than double than other skyscrapers under construction in Dubai and Kuwait, and almost seven times as high as the Canary Wharf tower in London's Docklands.

According to initial projections, the view from the top of the tower on a clear day could be that of the Middle East and North Africa, with a brilliant view of the Indian Ocean.
It is being planned for a new city near the Red Sea port of Jeddah. Behind the scheme is 51-year-old Prince al-Walid bin Talal, who bought the Savoy for 3 billion euro in 2005.

Experts say the technical challenges are enormous. Much of the lifting will be carried out by helicopters, which will also be used as commuter transport for builders.
The prince's company, Riyadh-based Kingdom Holdings, has set up a joint venture with the London firms Hyder Consulting and Arup.
