Hermes International designs, produces, and distributes personnal luxury accessories and apparel. The company operates a chain of boutique that sells items such as leather, men's clothes, scarves, ties, women's clothes, perfume, watches, stationery, shoes, hats, gloves and jewelry.
I read with a lot of interest about Oprah Winfrey’s clash with Hermes on June 29.
Unless I am missing something, I do not see any reason why this incident should evoke such empathy and anger. To begin with, Oprah went to the store past the business hours.
If any employee were to open the doors for Oprah, it would have been as a favor to Oprah and not a right.
Stores have rules and regulations to be followed, and when policies are adhered to, it is out of question to term it as “discrimination, racism and lack of common sense.
Does Oprah expect closed store doors to fling open after hours simply because it is Oprah Winfrey? I do not think so.
